I recently moved from Boulder County, CO back east, specifically to the lovely little town of Winchester, VA. It may be my imagination but I do believe more people are wishing me a “Merry Christmas” than at any other time in the last twenty years when I lived in the southwest. While I understand it’s presumptuous for people to assume that’s the holiday I’m celebrating at this time of year, I will admit that there’s a blast of nostalgia for me.
I love this season, I love the music, art and stories, especially the Christmas story itself, a beautiful metaphorical masterpiece of simple story telling that resonates to this day. Following the traditions of my family, Christmas music is played from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas night. Anything longer would dilute the power of the music. For any of you who want to enjoy the music of the season…at least my picks for the music of the season, here are some playlists to enjoy. I’ll return with more commentary, poetry, music and whatever else passes through my mind in the new year.
Happy…
